This wooden shipping box was originally sent to COMMANDING OFFICER, ST. LOUIS MEDICAL DEPOT U.S by the ACME COTTON PRODUCTS CO. It was probably constructed in the 1942-44 period. It was then used to ship personal items to an MD's home in Marshalltown, Iowa following WWII. Dr. Otis D. Wolfe then joined the Wolfe Eye Clinic which has father had co-founded in 1919. The Wolfe Eye Clinic is still headquartered in Marshalltown and has 40 different clinics in Iowa. It is known worldwide for its state-of-the-art cataract, glaucoma, and other expertise. One famous patient was Elvis Presley.
My wife acquired this box (marked 2) and a larger box (marked 6 and listed separately) from Dr. Wolfe when he was selling stuff at his home across the street from where she lived in the 1990s. He was downsizing homes at that time. Dr. Wolfe passed away in 2006 at the age of 93 or 94.
